Safety

What Kibo does when someone mentions suicide or self-harm, in plain words.

If you are in danger now, call your local emergency number. The lines for your country are below.

Kibo is an AI

Kibo is an AI, not a person. It is not a therapist, a crisis line or an emergency service. Kibo says so at the start of a conversation and again at least every three hours while it goes on, in Kaizen’s chat and on WhatsApp.

When someone mentions suicide or self-harm

Before any AI answers, Kaizen reads each message for words that sound like thoughts of suicide or self-harm, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Kibo’s AI is also told to mark a reply when someone may be in danger, for the ways of saying it a word list misses. We would rather answer with care when it wasn’t needed than stay silent when it was, so a figure of speech can set it off too.

When either one fires:

  • Kibo stops coaching: no advice about money, goals or habits, and nothing done in your account in that reply.
  • Kibo answers with care, in your language: it acknowledges what you said without judging, gently asks whether you are safe right now, and encourages you to reach someone you trust. It never diagnoses, lectures or refuses to talk.
  • Kaizen then adds the crisis lines for your country. We write those lines, not the AI, so they are always the same and always checked.
  • The conversation stays open. The reply ends: «I'm an AI and I can't call anyone for you, but I'm here and I'll keep listening.»

Nothing stands between you and the lines: they come even when your AI credits for the month are used up, when the AI service fails, and when you write to our WhatsApp line without a Kaizen account.

The lines Kibo gives

  • United States: 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call or text 988 (free, 24/7; text and chat also in Spanish). In immediate danger: 911.
  • Canada: 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline, call or text 9-8-8 (24/7). In immediate danger: 9-1-1.
  • Colombia: Línea 106 of Bogotá’s Health Department (24/7): WhatsApp +57 300 754 8933, or dial 106 from a Bogotá landline. On WhatsApp they also answer people outside Bogotá. In immediate danger: 123.
  • Brazil: CVV, call 188 (free, 24 hours) or chat at cvv.org.br. In immediate danger: SAMU, 192.
  • Australia: Lifeline, call 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14 (24 hours). In immediate danger: 000.
  • Anywhere else: we have not verified a line for your country yet, so Kibo asks you to call your local emergency number and to reach someone near you.

Kaizen picks the country from where your connection comes from, or your device’s region; on WhatsApp, from your number’s country code. It does not keep that country. We checked every line on its official source on 24 October 2026.

Who Kaizen is for

Kaizen is for people 18 or older. AI companions like Kibo may not be suitable for some minors.

What we keep

Nothing new. A reply with the lines is kept with your conversation, like every reply, and is deleted with your account. No analytics event marks it. To count how many times Kibo pointed someone to a crisis line, we count those kept replies, with no names; from July 2027 we report that count to California’s Office of Suicide Prevention, as its law asks. Our Privacy Policy says the rest.
